My career started over thirty years ago when I took my first job at the neighborhood drug store. People who know me know helping others is my passion. For the past six years, I have worked in specialty pharmacy and developed an expertise in patient services that includes benefits and reimbursement support as well as full case management. This is why working as part of the Empower Patient Services team is such a good fit for me.
As part of the Empower Patient Services team, I get to know each patient personally and understand their specific needs to start and stay on therapy. Providing ongoing, consistent care for patients and their families gives me great satisfaction, and it is the main reason I love my role here at Empower Patient Services. As a team we care about each other and the people we serve. We are patient centered in everything we do.
When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my seven grandchildren and four adult children. I also have a German shepherd mix that loves to swim in the freshwater lake at the local dog park. I spend most weekends enjoying the outdoors with the whole family.
I’ve worked in customer service for more than 25 years because I love helping people. But 5 years ago, I happily moved to the healthcare world because I wanted to make a more direct difference in the lives of others. My approach is to treat each person as I would want a family member to be treated, and I’m grateful that Empower Patient Services lets me do just that.
Being part of someone’s healthcare journey is fascinating for me. Empower Patient Services allows me to put each person first and really listen to their concerns. It’s rewarding to talk with people, offer guidance, and be a part of supporting the changes a person wants to make in his or her life.
When I’m not at work, I’m often at a lake with my husband—he’s an avid fisherman, and I have fun relaxing! We also like to travel, and I’m a crafter of all sorts and like home improvement projects. I make sure I take time each day to appreciate what I have—it helps me have a brighter outlook on life, which I want to share with the people I serve.
With more than 36 years working in both retail and specialty pharmacies helping patients manage access to their medications, I understand the importance of having the right team supporting you. What excites me about working with the Empower Patient Services team is the opportunity to work with patients one on one for their full duration of care. Working with a team who is passionate about the continuity of care and being an advocate for patients is the reason I joined Empower Patient Services.
Building relationships and offering individualized care are essential to addressing the needs of every patient. Helping patients with rare disease is my passion, and I feel a responsibility to ensure they can access their medicines and stay on therapy. My experience addressing insurance coverage issues offers patients and their families peace of mind. Helping make a difference in someone’s life gives me great satisfaction and is the main reason I wanted to work for Empower Patient Services.
Outside of work, spending time with my family is the most important thing to me. We love the outdoors and take many family vacations together. My husband and I also enjoy helping our kids complete projects in their homes and spending as much time as possible with our three grandsons.
With over 16 years in pharmacy, I’ve worked in a variety of settings, including specialty pharmacies. I’m also familiar with all aspects of pharmacy, including front-end and back-end processes. I’ve always most enjoyed the settings that allowed a more personal engagement with patients, which is why I was attracted to Empower Patient Services.
My favorite aspect of my work at Empower Patient Services is interacting with patients by listening to their experiences and offering assistance as needed. I like providing patients with the consistency and reassurance of a single point of contact. I also greatly enjoy another aspect—helping patients with insurance challenges. Patients are relieved to be free of the burden associated with insurance, and it’s incredibly satisfying to help them gain coverage. Overall, I assist in whatever way I can with whatever needs a patient expresses. This approach lets me gain a full picture of each patient and creates more personal interactions.
When I’m not working, I enjoy keeping up my home and am often at Lake of the Ozarks with my husband, where we enjoy boating, fishing, and hiking. Our daughter is away at college, but we often gather with extended family at the lake for fun and relaxation.
With over 20 years in healthcare, I’ve worked in a variety of settings including hospitals, private practices, and a Social Security Disability claims office. I’ve gained extensive experience in billing and coding which helps me in discussions with hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies. Each of my roles has allowed me to work directly with patients, and supporting them along their healthcare journey is my passion.
My favorite aspect of my work at Empower Patient Services is interacting with patients. As a person with an autoimmune disease, I know firsthand how patients and their families are feeling from the start of their journey to obtain a definitive diagnosis and begin treatment. During this journey, I am there to offer patients relief from the burden associated with insurance challenges and to ensure they feel supported by someone who is championing them from day one. Supporting patients with empathy and compassion while offering them encouragement and guidance is what excites me most about my role at Empower Patient Services.
When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time on the farm with my husband and a variety of animals that include goats, chickens, ducks, rabbits, dogs, and cats. Spending time with my three grown daughters and two grandchildren brings me the greatest joy. My husband and I also love the outdoors and look forward to spending time at Lake of the Ozarks.
I feel that my calling in life is to care for others and, as part of the Empower Patient Services team, I’m honored to have the opportunity to do that. I’ve gained diverse skills over more than 15 years in healthcare services, and I try to use those skills every day to make people’s lives easier. I like to be the person someone can count on—that’s what makes me excited every day to get up and come to work!
Empower Patient Services lets me serve people best by encouraging me to listen to the needs of each person I come into contact with and provide ongoing, consistent care. We are a family at Empower Patient Services. We care about each other and the people we serve, and are devoted to quality in what we do. Our focus is on living out our values with each person or family who contacts us as well as with our fellow team members.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with family, cooking up a new dish in the kitchen, or watching a classic TV show. I also delight in talking with friends and family on just about any topic.
My journey to a career in healthcare started with my father’s illness more than twelve years ago when my family experienced the hardship of maneuvering the matrix of medical care. This experience and continued medical challenges with my mother and grandmother led me to work in a retail pharmacy where I learned how to manage the hurdles associated with access to medicines. I was recognized by patients and staff as the ‘go to’ person for copay assistance support. This firsthand experience in the pharmacy gave me the expertise to help others, facing similar obstacles, stay on therapy.
One aspect I especially enjoy about my work at Empower Patient Services is the opportunity to provide one-on-one support to patients and their families. When a person enrolls in Empower Patient Services, they will continue to enjoy the consistency of the same care coordinator along their patient journey. As a patient myself, I understand how important staying on therapy is to a person’s quality of life. This understanding motivates me to deliver exceptional results for patients daily.
In my free time, I enjoy cooking, especially Italian cuisine, drawing, and painting. Time spent with my family is majorly important to me. Some of my best memories have been with my cousins, who are more like my niece and nephew, and they inspire me to become a mom one day.
With more than 15 years’ experience in healthcare delivering direct patient care as a paramedic and EMT, eight years as a health insurance agent, and the last five years in specialty pharmacy, I am passionate about helping patients start and maintain their therapy. I’ve witnessed firsthand the importance of a patient’s successful adherence to their medication, and having one-on-one engagement, helping them manage their healthcare journey, is what attracted me to Empower Patient Services.
My favorite aspect of working at Empower Patient Services is the opportunity to speak with patients and have a positive impact on their quality of life. Patients and their families are relieved to be free of the burden associated with insurance. As a care coordinator, I see my role as supporting patients throughout their patient journey by providing guidance, listening to their concerns, and ensuring whatever challenges come their way, I am there to support them.
When I am away from work, I enjoy being with family and friends. My wife and I have a three-month-old son who keeps us busy. We spend a lot of time outdoors fishing and boating. My other favorite past times are working on cars and riding my motorcycle. Scenic rides up to the wineries and around the waterways of Lake of the Ozarks allow me to relax and recharge.
During my 15 years in healthcare, I’ve had the opportunity to work in both pharmacy and insurance settings, and I’ve managed a variety of medication challenges for patients. My expertise in completing prior authorizations and facilitating the medication appeals process means I can deliver exceptional results for patients and providers. The opportunity to collaborate directly with patients every day is what attracted me to Empower Patient Services. From the moment I met the team and learned about their mission to support patients, I knew I could make a positive impact on a patient’s quality of life as an Empower Patient Services Care Coordinator.
Serving patients with a rare disease is challenging and rewarding. I’m at my best when I can engage with patients directly and offer them support by listening to them and providing them guidance. With humor and humility, I build trust with patients and their families. Seeing patients succeed through their healthcare journey brings me immense joy and exemplifies the patient-first culture at Empower Patient Services.
In my free time, I enjoy going to Broadway musicals and live concerts. Also, I love to travel and learn about different people and cultures. My dream travel destinations are Australia and Hawaii. One fun fact about me is that I worked for almost a year as the entertainment host for Carnival Cruise Lines where I enjoyed sailing to the Caribbean and Puerto Rico.
With more than 15 years in specialty pharmacy, I have seen the healthcare landscape evolve, especially in rare disease. Prior to starting my career in healthcare, I was an aid for a child with special needs and that experience put me on the path to my first healthcare role as a call center patient support representative for a large specialty pharmacy. My experiences over the years in pharmacy have taught me how to approach medication access hurdles and help patients obtain their medicines.
One of the things I enjoy most about my work at Empower Patient Services is the opportunity to work one on one with patients and their providers. My role within Empower Patient Services allows me to monitor and support my patients from day one. It is incredibly satisfying to help connect patients and their providers to resources and provide them reassurance that help is available in accessing their medications regardless of their insurance challenges.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family which includes my husband, three adult daughters, and three grandchildren along with our family dog. We love to bring out the Big Green Egg and host family barbeques that include lots of brisket and pulled pork. My husband and I love to travel and are planning a family trip this summer to the beaches of either Alabama or Florida.
As the oldest of seven children, I learned the importance of serving others early on, with the value of service further reinforced by my grandmother. That inspired my career in healthcare, where I have been happily serving others for more than 20 years. I am experienced in retail pharmacy and, more recently, worked in a hospital pharmacy where I specialized in biologics.
In my work at Empower Patient Services, I am struck by the varied patient stories and the many challenges of having a rare condition. I see my role as offering patients calm guidance, helpful information, and most importantly, hope. It’s wonderful we have the space for that to happen, where patients feel heard and supported in their journey. It’s very satisfying to see patients develop resilience over time, and it’s powerful and humbling to be part of that process.
Outside of work, I enjoy creative outlets that challenge me to look inside myself, through painting, writing, and spoken word. I love getting a massage to relax and like live music, especially when it’s outdoors. To stay active, I like to roller skate, both indoors and out.
People know me for my customer service expertise which has been built on more than 25 years of experience serving customers and patients in both retail and healthcare settings. A few years ago, my manager suggested I pursue my pharmacy technician license, and from there I moved quickly into helping patients and their families with accessing medications as part of their pharmacy team. Helping people is my passion and the main reason I enjoy working at Empower Patient Services.
Working as a certified pharmacy technician has given me a firsthand view of the challenges patients face with accessing their medications. My experience working through these challenges positively impacts patients by helping them get started on therapy quickly and stay on therapy. Directly supporting and building one-on-one long-lasting relationships with patients, their families, and their healthcare team is my favorite aspect of my work at Empower Patient Services. I look forward to interacting with my patients and their care teams to personalize their experience and support them throughout their journey.
When I’m not working, I enjoy reading, cooking, traveling, and spending time with family. I have a daughter, two sisters, two brothers, and several nieces and nephews. When I want to relax and unwind, you can find me in the mountains enjoying time camping and fishing with friends and family.
As a Spanish speaking healthcare leader for more than 20 years, I’ve worked across many teams helping patients understand and navigate their medication journey. Early in my career, I worked in Puerto Rico completing patient program enrollments, managing insurance challenges, and creating adverse event reporting. Patients feel more comfortable having someone who can understand their struggle and speak their language when encountering challenges with their medications. Having a direct, personal impact on patients is why I am passionate about working at Empower Patient Services.
One of the things I most enjoy about working at Empower Patient Services is the team approach to helping patients. Everyone is working toward the same goal—to ensure no patient is left behind. I know firsthand how a patient’s medication impacts their quality of life, and I want to be part of their journey to ensure they have access with no delays. Sharing stories with patients and hearing how their medication provides results is why I show up every day.
Outside of work, I am a self-proclaimed family guy who enjoys spending time with my wife and three children. Our daughter and older son are off at college, and our sixteen-year-old son is an avid soccer player. When I’m not travelling for soccer games, I enjoy BBQ’s and fixing up older cars using recycled parts from local junk yards.
With over 38 years in healthcare working for hospitals, pharmacies, and payers, I have the expertise to guide patients facing medication access challenges by offering support for starting and staying on therapy. I genuinely enjoy advocating for patients, and being able to provide one-on-one support is what attracted me to Empower Patient Services.
The aspect I enjoy most, in my work at Empower Patient Services, is working on behalf of patients by interacting with their doctors, nurses, and pharmacists. I can help make their care team’s jobs easier and improve the patient’s experience in accessing their medicines. Also, the accomplishment of helping patients with insurance challenges and guiding them past common barriers to obtain their medicines is incredibly satisfying to me, especially when I see the impact their medication is having on their overall quality of life.
Outside of work, I love to coach soccer, ride my mountain bike, and make music. I was in a band with an old company for a couple of years and once competed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Corporate Battle of the Bands. I’ve been making music since I was a kid and was part of a gospel group with my parents when I was younger. Currently I play banjo, mandolin, and guitar and enjoy writing and playing music. I also enjoy spending time with my wife and our daughter, who is a rising high school senior. College tours are our family outings these days!
