I’ve worked in customer service for more than 25 years because I love helping people. But 5 years ago, I happily moved to the healthcare world because I wanted to make a more direct difference in the lives of others. My approach is to treat each person as I would want a family member to be treated, and I’m grateful that Empower Patient Services lets me do just that.
Being part of someone’s healthcare journey is fascinating for me. Empower Patient Services allows me to put each person first and really listen to their concerns. It’s rewarding to talk with people, offer guidance, and be a part of supporting the changes a person wants to make in his or her life.
When I’m not at work, I’m often at a lake with my husband—he’s an avid fisherman, and I have fun relaxing! We also like to travel, and I’m a crafter of all sorts and like home improvement projects. I make sure I take time each day to appreciate what I have—it helps me have a brighter outlook on life, which I want to share with the people I serve.
With over 16 years in pharmacy, I’ve worked in a variety of settings, including specialty pharmacies. I’m also familiar with all aspects of pharmacy, including front-end and back-end processes. I’ve always most enjoyed the settings that allowed a more personal engagement with patients, which is why I was attracted to Empower Patient Services.
My favorite aspect of my work at Empower Patient Services is interacting with patients by listening to their experiences and offering assistance as needed. I like providing patients with the consistency and reassurance of a single point of contact. I also greatly enjoy another aspect—helping patients with insurance challenges. Patients are relieved to be free of the burden associated with insurance, and it’s incredibly satisfying to help them gain coverage. Overall, I assist in whatever way I can with whatever needs a patient expresses. This approach lets me gain a full picture of each patient and creates more personal interactions.
When I’m not working, I enjoy keeping up my home and am often at Lake of the Ozarks with my husband, where we enjoy boating, fishing, and hiking. Our daughter is away at college, but we often gather with extended family at the lake for fun and relaxation.
I feel that my calling in life is to care for others and, as part of the Empower Patient Services team, I’m honored to have the opportunity to do that. I’ve gained diverse skills over more than 15 years in healthcare services, and I try to use those skills every day to make people’s lives easier. I like to be the person someone can count on—that’s what makes me excited every day to get up and come to work!
Empower Patient Services lets me serve people best by encouraging me to listen to the needs of each person I come into contact with and provide ongoing, consistent care. We are a family at Empower Patient Services. We care about each other and the people we serve, and are devoted to quality in what we do. Our focus is on living out our values with each person or family who contacts us as well as with our fellow team members.
When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with family, cooking up a new dish in the kitchen, or watching a classic TV show. I also delight in talking with friends and family on just about any topic.
Prior to working in healthcare, I enjoyed many years in media and marketing, and I love the opportunities my job provides. I value the ability to serve others through my work at Empower Patient Services. I have developed a deep satisfaction from being able to play a role in helping someone on their healthcare journey.
One aspect I especially love about my work at Empower Patient Services, is the opportunity to provide continuity of care. When a person enrolls in our services, they will continue to enjoy the consistency of the same Coordinator assisting them over time, whatever their needs. This can include insurance questions, pharmacy requests, and other concerns. It’s important in healthcare when the needs can be many and immediate.
In my free time, I enjoy crafting, baking, and gardening. In addition, my husband and I pride ourselves on tackling home improvement projects. Most importantly, I love spending time with family and friends.
As the oldest of seven children, I learned the importance of serving others early on, with the value of service further reinforced by my grandmother. That inspired my career in healthcare, where I have been happily serving others for more than 20 years. I am experienced in retail pharmacy and, more recently, worked in a hospital pharmacy where I specialized in biologics.
In my work at Empower Patient Services, I am struck by the varied patient stories and the many challenges of having a rare condition. I see my role as offering patients calm guidance, helpful information, and most importantly, hope. It’s wonderful we have the space for that to happen, where patients feel heard and supported in their journey. It’s very satisfying to see patients develop resilience over time, and it’s powerful and humbling to be part of that process.
Outside of work, I enjoy creative outlets that challenge me to look inside myself, through painting, writing, and spoken word. I love getting a massage to relax and like live music, especially when it’s outdoors. To stay active, I like to roller skate, both indoors and out.
Having worked in many pharmacy settings, including a small family pharmacy and a national chain pharmacy, my priority has always been to build strong relationships with people. I like being able to add a bit of joy or a laugh to someone’s day, and feel fortunate I found personal service to be of utmost importance at Empower Patient Services.
The care I give to each person is individualized—what’s important to them is what is important to me as we work together to address their needs. I have the benefit of knowing first-hand what it’s like to be a person who needs the services of a specialty pharmacy, and that has given me great perspective in how to best help others. Being able to help give people peace of mind and knowing that I have helped make someone’s life a little better gives me great satisfaction.
When I want to relax away from work, I like to be outdoors. I find time to garden and work in my yard, and also like to camp and fish. My husband and 3 children keep me busy, along with our 3 dogs and 2 cats.
People who know me recognize that what guides me is making a difference in someone’s life. That’s why working as part of the Empower Patient Services team is such a great fit for me. As part of the team, I’m able to develop real relationships and get to know each person personally. Relieving them and their loved ones of some of their burdens lets me feel I am making a direct impact, and it’s extremely gratifying.
Earlier in life I spent 6 years in Africa doing humanitarian aid work, and even learned the Swahili language so I could communicate better! Seeing people struggle in Africa and witnessing the value of a close-knit community have colored everything I do here. I have deep compassion for what people are going through, and it’s wonderful to be able to support them as part of the Empower Patient Services community.
When I’m away from work, I enjoy spending time with my husband, 2 teenagers, and 2 cats. I speak Spanish and love to travel, exploring other cultures and languages, and learning about the people. It’s how I relax, and the knowledge I bring back helps me be the best I can in my work.
Empower Patient Services is more than service—it’s partnership. To learn more about our unique offerings, give us a call at 1-866-5-EMPOWER (1-866-536-7693).
